If you’re travelling with Ryanair on an upcoming flight, here’s everything you need to know about your Ryanair baggage allowance, restrictions, fees and charges.
Flying with Ryanair in 2025? Here’s everything you need to know about Ryanair’s baggage allowance - including cabin bag sizes, checked luggage limits, and any extra fees.
Your baggage allowance with Ryanair will depend on the fare type you’ve booked and whether you’ve added any extras like Priority boarding or additional bags.
We aim to keep this guide as current as possible, however, please remember that policies and restrictions can change.
Ryanair is an Irish low-cost airline and one of the largest carriers in Europe. It operates a modern, fuel-efficient fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft, flying to more than 240 airports across the continent. The airline is well known for providing excellent value on flights.
The Ryanair Group also includes several other airlines under its umbrella, such as Buzz, Lauda, and Malta Air, making it the largest airline group in Europe.
Your Ryanair cabin baggage allowance depends on the type of fare you've booked, or whether you've added any extras to your booking.
This is the standard allowance included with all Ryanair bookings. As of July 2025, the size limit for the small personal item has increased. For Non-Priority (Basic) fares, your cabin baggage allowance is:
This could be a small backpack, handbag, or laptop bag. It must fit under the seat in front of you.
This allowance applies to passengers who book a Regular or Flexi Plus fare, or who add the Priority & 2 Cabin Bags option. The current allowance is:
This fare includes Priority Boarding. The small item must go under the seat, and the larger 10kg bag must fit in the overhead locker.
If you’ve booked a Basic Fare, you can upgrade by adding the Priority option at the time of booking or later via the Ryanair app or website.
Each passenger can purchase up to three checked bags, either weighing 10kg or 20kg. These can be added during the initial booking or up to 2 hours before the scheduled flight departure via the Ryanair app or website.
Checked baggage is charged per person, per one-way flight, with prices varying based on the route, travel dates, and method of purchase. Higher fees apply if bags are added after the initial booking, or when purchased via a Ryanair call centre, at airport ticket desks, during peak travel periods, or on selected routes.
If your checked bag exceeds the weight limit (10kg or 20kg depending on your booking), you may pay for excess baggage at the airport. Ryanair allows checked bags up to a maximum of 32kg, with excess weight charged at £11 / €11 per kg.
Passengers can check in sports equipment and musical instruments as part of their hold luggage, alongside regular checked bags. Most items must not exceed 20kg, except bicycles, which can weigh up to 30kg.
Typical fees range from £35–£60 per item, one-way, if booked online, and £40–£75 if added at the airport. Prices vary depending on the item.
