Air France Cabin Baggage

Your cabin baggage allowance is determined by your travel cabin. Passengers are permitted to carry onboard one or two cabin baggage items, depending on the travel cabin, as well as one accessory, such as a handbag, a briefcase, or a small bag for a notebook computer. Your travel cabin is shown on your booking and on your ticket.

Your cabin baggage must not exceed 55cm x 35cm x 25cm. Your accessory must not exceed 40cm x 30cm x 15cm. The total combined weight of your cabin baggage and accessory must not exceed 12kg if you are travelling economy or 18kg if you are travelling business class.

Additional items you may take on board the cabin:

  • Jacket, coat or other clothes you are wearing
  • Umbrella
  • Duty-free items purchased on your flight or at the airport
  • Accessories for children such as a collapsible stroller*, car seat, diaper bag (see the Family and children section of the website)
  • Medical equipment (collapsible wheelchair*, crutches, etc).

Please note:

  • Garment bags and “Yoyo” strollers are considered a standard hand baggage item, not an accessory.
  • For safety reasons, any equipment designed for children to sleep horizontally (convertible bag that serves as a bed, inflatable mattress placed in front of the seat, etc.) are not permitted onboard Air France aircraft.

Air France Sports Equipment and Special Baggage

Air France permits a wide range of sporting equipment, musical instruments and other exceptional items on flights. Special baggage under the standard checked baggage allowance can be considered as such and can be transported in the hold. However, items that exceed these restrictions may require permission from Air France customer service.

Some musical instruments can even be transported as cabin baggage if an additional seat is purchased on the flight. Prior approval from Air France customer service is required, and the weight per seat must not exceed 46kg. Or, instruments can be checked for a fee.

Customs & Entry Requirements

When travelling internationally, it’s a requirement that you pass through customs. However, for domestic travel, or travel within the EU, customs is not usually required. In all cases, you will pass through security checks, to which it’s likely your ID and Documents will be checked, so it’s a good idea to have these documents ready and available throughout your journey.

Entry requirements vary from country to country. It’s very important that you research the exact requirements specific to you before you travel, as certain countries may require a visa, proof of insurance, and possibly bank statements. Your passport must also be valid for the full duration of your stay, with some countries requiring at least 6 months validity. However, all requirements will differ and are subject to your specific circumstances, such as duration of stay, purpose of travel, and the regulations that the country has set.

We recommend sourcing information about entry requirements from the country’s official websites.

Connecting Flights

Connecting flights refer to you taking multiple flights in order to reach your destination. This results in having a longer journey time, however, it’s quite common when direct services are not available.

If you have a connecting flight booked on the same ticket, typically your baggage will be checked through to your final destination. However, with potential flight delays, busy airports, and tight connections, you might make the connection, but often your baggage does not. This is why more and more travellers are travelling light by shipping their luggage ahead.

Many low-cost airlines don't offer connecting flights. This means it's your responsibility to manage your onward connections, and collect your baggage after each flight.

If you’re unsure, we recommend that you contact your airline directly.
